While
words cannot begin to describe the grand scale of the fishery and its
meaning, a few come to mind: chromers, chromers, chromers. The Rogue
River’s fall Chinook salmon run could be the most exciting fishery
in the West. Every summer, hundreds of thousands of Chinook enter the
Rogue River at Gold Beach. And that’s exactly where we will be.
We target these fish within ten miles of the ocean, where they are most
willing to take the fly. Once hooked, on the swing, it’s game
time. There is nothing in fresh or saltwater that pulls harder than
a Rogue King. It’s a hand-to-hand combat, man versus fish affair,
the ultimate test of will and determination. Leave the 8 weights and
click n’ pawls at home.
This
is our most popular fishery. There is something special about fishing
for steelhead as summer turns to fall. Crisper and cooler mornings,
trees changing color, the presence of spawning salmon; this transformation
is about change. Jonny on the Spot is ever changing. Starting this summer,
we will exclusively be fishing for these great fish using traditional
methods. We will focus on fishing the swing with two handed rods. We
believe this is part of the evolution of a steelheader. We are very
excited to present this opportunity to our anglers, as this is our passion.
This season also coincides with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, so you can catch a great play, too!
