While words cannot begin to describe the grand scale of the fishery and its meaning, a few come to mind: chromers, chromers, chromers. The Rogue River’s fall Chinook salmon run could be the most exciting fishery in the West. Every summer, hundreds of thousands of Chinook enter the Rogue River at Gold Beach. And that’s exactly where we will be. We target these fish within ten miles of the ocean, where they are most willing to take the fly. Once hooked, on the swing, it’s game time. There is nothing in fresh or saltwater that pulls harder than a Rogue King. It’s a hand-to-hand combat, man versus fish affair, the ultimate test of will and determination. Leave the 8 weights and click n’ pawls at home.

Peak Season:
August through September

This is our most popular fishery. There is something special about fishing for steelhead as summer turns to fall. Crisper and cooler mornings, trees changing color, the presence of spawning salmon; this transformation is about change. Jonny on the Spot is ever changing. Starting this summer, we will exclusively be fishing for these great fish using traditional methods. We will focus on fishing the swing with two handed rods. We believe this is part of the evolution of a steelheader. We are very excited to present this opportunity to our anglers, as this is our passion.

Peak Season: September, October, November, and Mid-December

This season also coincides with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, so you can catch a great play, too!

Winter steelhead are the definitive challenge for hardcore anglers.
The reward: a potential “life fish” experience.

Oregon Coast:
Steelheading is a passion for us. There is no other place we would rather be than winter Steelheading on the Southern Oregon Coast. Why? As our coastal rivers rise and fall with winter rains, big, wild steelhead push into emerald waters, seeking refuge in glassy tail-outs and choppy riffles. Our favorite places to stalk these elusive fish are the Elk, Sixes, lower Rogue, and Chetco Rivers.

Peak Season: February through March

Upper Rogue:
By the end of March, tens of thousands of winter steelhead are cruising the upper Rogue. Our most consistent winter steelhead fishery, the upper Rogue produces fish well into April.

Peak Season: March through April

Applegate:
A major tributary of the Rogue, the Applegate River offers world-class steelheading in an intimate, exclusive setting. Cousins of the Rogue’s winter steelhead, Applegate fish are great biters and often take naturals like
a trout. Float trips and walk-ins available.

Peak Season: Mid February through March
